The cultural impact of the Rolling Stones, through Exhibitionism

How is go Exhibitionism, the huge London exhibition that reviews the cultural impact of the Rolling Stones with an intimate look at the personal files of its members and collaborators

The public is deafening sound. There are thousands of people shouting and cheering, waiting for the band. The guitars and basses, divided into three boxes marked with the names of its performers, expect their owners take their supports.

Behind a white curtain materials they are makeup, and a coat rack holds bright silk shirts. It is the backstage of a show of the Rolling Stones, just really is not. It is a recreation, but the feeling is that it generates is so real that at any time a door opens and will Mick Jagger on his way to the stage.

That's what achieves Exhibitionism exhibition, which includes more than 550 objects from the history of the band and uses them partly as a museum exhibit, and partly to recreations of everyday environments of the band, as this behind the scenes. The public goes backstage to a room where a video is displayed in 3D Satisfaction band playing, and there is the feeling that one was there with these rockers veterans.

Before reaching that area (which actually is the end of the route), the viewer was in the studio mixing songs from the band on a console, and playing with the sound of each instrument, appreciating small wonders like the bass riff of Miss you isolated from the rest of the band; he heard Martin Scorsese discuss the irregular history of the Stones on the big screen, and even saw objects as hairdressing chair in the band cut his hair during his tours.

However, the beginning of the sample does not seem announce what comes next, because their sensory impact is nothing remarkable. The first room contains just three projections with figures and data as the cities that have gone on tour, or for how long the songs recorded in more than 50-year career.

This is followed by an audiovisual presentation that reviews the career of the Stones (and that includes some seconds the band playing in Montevideo), and thereafter as everything becomes more interesting. a recreation of the apartment in which Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones lived in London during the early years of the group, where the origins of the band are discussed is traversed, and the expectations of those twentysomethings who dreamed contemplated "to buy a boat "or" lead the rankings in the United States and England, "as he told their fan club in a sort of identikit personal, handwritten and exhibited in the sample.

Exhibitionism, presented at the Saatchi Gallery in London until September, then start a world tour for four years, it is an almost obligatory pilgrimage for every fan of the band. Not only because of the historical value of what is shown there, but also by the possibility of giving a first-person look at the work of the Stones.

All this is complemented by interviews with the four current members of the band, as well as several collaborators, and a sample of instruments, photographs and other items of personal files Wood, Jagger, Richards and Watts.

Exhibitionism the second part is devoted to the influence of other artists band: first in the case of filmmakers and producers, makers of video clips of the group; then move to one of the most attractive parts of the show, which is responsible for the photographic and visual appearance of the Stones.

From the history of the legendary logo of the tongue (which contrary to legend, it is not inspired in the mouth of Mick Jagger) to posters and stage designs, where the group has pioneered combining the power of music with deployment lights, screens, fireworks, scenery and more.

All that you have supplemented their musical strength and that has made them remain a sight worth seeing, without becoming a parody or self-homage themselves, they can be seen in this section, where the close relationship of the musicians is with artists such as Andy Warhol, photographers like Annie Leibovitz, and set designers and ilumnadores Broadway responsible for the designs of their scenarios, from the "loto" tour of 1975 by the US, to the bridge of the tour Bridges to Babylon that it cost a million dollars, paid by Jagger.

Of course the scene also plays its role clothing. And the next section collects from the same costumes they used the initiative of its manager in its early days, to the complicated, extravagant and highly personalized outfits that have been used since the late 1960s onwards, and which were made by famous designers all the world.

The Rolling Stones are much more than rock & roll. With his career spanning over half a century they are also a trademark, an important part of modern culture, a reference in terms of design and fashion and even a source of inspiration for other artists.

Exhibitionism has an "official" band idyllic, view but that does not prevent the sample is a compilation of the cultural influence of the Stones and recognition to women and men who contributed their talents to create group identity.
