"When there's music, the story changes"

The teacher speaks Luis Szarán Sounds of the Earth, in its tenth anniversary, a project in which more than 2,700 young musicians paid tribute to the Rolling Stones, on the 50th anniversary of the iconic British band.

"When there's music, the story changes," reads the slogan as a project "Sounds of Earth", born in 2002, founded by musician Luis Szarán, and aimed at disadvantaged youth.

The project soon developed through the establishment of musical training schools and currently benefits more than 3,000 people in some 72 communities across the country.

Its activities emphasize the "Conservatory on wheels"-a system of itinerant teaching music-violin-building workshops and repair of musical instruments-in Asuncion and in the interior, including the "Melodies of garbage" that produces musical instruments made of salvaged items in landfills.

The founder and principal, teacher Luis Szarán ensures that several thousands of personal stories of children and adolescents through music changed that broadcasts the project.

"We have thousands of stories of kids at risk: drugs, crime, totally in despair, not always linked to poverty. We have many cases, "he says.

One of them includes a Caacupé teen, who was taken by her mother for violence problems. "At the beginning of the project in each village was on the radio and community TV channels to encourage mothers and fathers to send their children to schools of music. Music helps combat youth violence, "he says.

On occasion, he approached a single mother who had serious problems with her teenage son. "I was desperate, and I said: 'Buy her a guitar and send, our classes are free'. He struggled, he bought a guitar and, after three months, we had a meeting with parents, and told us his experience. From the moment we put the guitar in the hands of this young man, every time he came back he found his son with the guitar to give a small concert. 'I never thought that a piece of wood could change two lives', he said "

Los Rolling Stones y Almendra del flaco Spinetta tocaron en Perú , según Paul Perry

foto: Cucho Peñaloza!!!
"pagina12"
radar

The Rolling Stones and "Almendra" (Almond) , "the skinny Spinetta", played in Peru, according to Paul Perry

"Page12"
radar
Sunday, August 26, 2012

The first book published after his death Spinetta is also the most unexpected: it is written in English, Hardy is "The Skinny" and its author is Paul Perry, an American son of Argentineans who came to live in Villa Urquiza, finishing being first neighbor, after English teacher and finally Spinetta friend. Radar was made from a copy of My Neighbor, the Skinny and went to chat with this Paul.

The most unusual story and less plausible is what Luis (Louie) tells about the time Paul Almond played with The Rolling Stones in Peru. The book says, quote, putting words in the mouth of Spinetta: "Once, in 1969, we were in Lima, Peru, and the Rolling Stones were playing. And we were in the same hotel (...). People said it was the devil's music. We were very young man, and had this plant called floriapondio (floripondio, really) that Hervis and Thomas (...). And we smoke this plant with them, and Mick said 'this is good, we needed a change from what we get in England' (...). When we were playing, my head was killing me, I had a terrible headache. " Sounds floripondio trip, but you can clear the weeds and understand this better.

True, Almond played in Peru, in February 1969, the Festival of Ancon, a Peruvian Mar del Plata, but not the Stones. However, there are records of the presence of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Anita Pallemberg in Peru with Machu Picchu plan to meet in March 1969. Therefore, it is not unrealistic to think that may have coincided in the Lima hotel, obligatory stop for both contingents. "He told me he played with the Rolling Stones' says Perry, who were with the datura, that made my head hurt. But I may have misunderstood, because I do not know if all you told me is true, because everyone exaggerates. "

Dispute between Mick Jagger and Michael Apted impeded the release of a Rolling Stones documentary, potentially landmark recorded a decade ago.

The award-winning director behind the 7 Up series has spoken for the first time of his disappointment and bitterness that a dispute with Mick Jagger prevented the release of a potentially landmark Rolling Stones documentary he shot a decade ago.
Michael Apted revealed that he occasionally screens a rough cut of a feature-length documentary, which includes footage of rehearsals and the opening dates of the Rolling Stones' record breaking 40th anniversary Licks tour, for friends. However, the film, shot in 2002, has never been released.
Apted said that Jagger told him during a meeting in Las Vegas that the film he had delivered as a rough cut would not do the band any good, adding that the Rolling Stones frontman had brought "his hitman in to deal with it".
Apted added that the project, on which he worked for several months, was then shelved indefinitely after he and Jagger failed to agree on cuts.
"I did the film and showed them a very rough cut and Mick said 'fine, finish it'. So I finished it and then I took it – I'll never forget it – to Las Vegas to show him and he said: 'We can't have this, this is not doing the band any good.' And he hired his hitman in to deal with it," Apted said during an interview at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival on Friday. He added that Jagger asked him to take 20 minutes out of the rough cut, which was 105 minutes long.
"I said 'all right'. So I did it and thought it was horrible. And I sent it back to him and there was silence," Apted recalled in Edinburgh. "Then eventually he came back and said 'take another 20 minutes out of it'. And I said 'fuck off'."
Apted, 71, helped choose the child interviewees for 7 Up in 1964 and has directed every series of the landmark documentary since then as it has followed the 14 subjects at seven-year intervals. He said he was asked to do the Stones project after working on the 2001 movieEnigma, which Jagger produced.
He spent time with the band in Paris, filmed them during six weeks of rehearsals in Toronto and covered the opening three dates of the Licks tour in Boston in September 2002. The mammoth show was on the road for more than a year and was then the second-biggest grossing tour of all time, seen by more than 3.4 million people and bringing in $300m.
Apted said Jagger later apologised and thanked him for his work on the documentary. But he said as far as he was aware the film had never been released in its full form, though he thought some of the footage appeared on the tour DVD. Asked about the project in Edinburgh by Mark Lawson, the broadcaster and journalist, Apted admitted: "Yes, that was bitter."
He added: "I've still got it. I don't think they've ever released it ... I occasionally show it to people. It was never dubbed or anything so it's a bit of a mess. That was a real disappointment."
"There are lots of other directors who've done the same things [with the Rolling Stones] and only the blandest films have ever made it through, like the [Martin] Scorsese thing."
Scorsese directed Shine a Light, the 2008 documentary which mixed archive material with footage of the Stones filmed in 2006.
"Mine was good because it was very emotional," Apted said. "They gave me a lot of contact, Charlie [Watts] and all of them. It was about their lives. What was great about it in a way was you could see they loved playing together. They were amazing. I remember they had this huge arena in New England they were playing and they came on, they were doing a soundcheck. And they started making up this blues song – it was beautiful. And I filmed it.
"Because their rap is they come out of retirement, make a big tax killing, make a ton of money. But they were really wonderful playing with each other. And I'd never seen a film about that."
A representative for Jagger said that he was travelling and unavailable for comment.
