El 13 de diciembre se inaugura en el Centro Cultural Borges de la ciudad de Buenos Ares una selección de fotos de Michael Cooper, nunca expuestas en el país
The Michael Cooper Collection inaugurará el próximo 13 de diciembre en el Centro Cultural Borges la exposición “Stones 50”.
Se trata de una cuidada selección de 100 “fine art fotografías” de los ya míticos Rolling Stones, capturadas por el legendario fotógrafo británico Michael Cooper (1941–1973). Estará presente Adam Cooper, hijo del fotógrafo que convivió con el grupo hasta los 9 años.
La muestra, integrada por fotos tomadas en los años ’60, documenta los primeros años del conjunto (creado en 1962) durante los cuales Cooper prácticamente convivió con la banda. Este acercamiento le permitió captar momentos de una intimidad única y privilegiada durante muchos ensayos, recitales, fiestas y viajes compartidos con el grupo.
Keith Richards recuerda ese tiempo de esta manera: “Lo asombroso es que yo realmente no recuerdo haberme encontrado con Michael, él se deslizó dentro de mi vida, y luego tristemente salió de ella(…) Era imposible estar un tiempo con Michael y no sentirte excitado con su vida, así como él lo hacía con la tuya. Al rato comenzabas a ver las cosas a través de sus ojos, y aprendías a mirarlas de otro modo”.
A pesar de su juventud, Cooper tuvo una carrera destacada en el mundo del arte, la moda y los eventos sociales y políticos de los años sesenta, y a través de su compromiso obsesivo, fue capaz no sólo de registrar el momento, sino de participar en el.
Una de sus imágenes más reconocidas es la fotografía utilizada para carátula del álbum Sargeant Pepper´s Lonely Hearts Club Band, de Los Beatles, realizada en 1967. Ese mismo año también diseñó y fotografió la tapa del álbum Their Satanic Majesties Request, de los Rolling Stones.
John Lennon lo recuerda de este modo: “De todos los fotógrafos que existen, Michael ha sido por lejos el que mejor documentó esa magnífica década, y quien entendió realmente qué significaron aquellos años sesenta y aquellos juveniles sueños de futuro”.
Por su parte, el escritor y periodista norteamericano Terry Southern escribió: “Michael fue un gran artista y un fiel creyente en que el arte en cualquiera de sus formas haría de este mundo un lugar mejor. Su magnífica obra confirma esto con grandeza; él fue una persona con una visión y un amor extraordinarios. No creo que encontraré a alguien como él nuevamente”.
Un aspecto menos conocido sobre Michael Cooper es el hecho de haber colaborado en la primera adaptación de la novela de “La Naranja Mecánica” de Anthony Burgess, proponiendo a Mick Jagger como protagonista y líder de la pandilla y a los otros miembros de Rolling Stones como parte de la misma. Este proyecto nunca llegó a realizarse.
Su hijo Adam Cooper lo recuerda como un espíritu libre e independiente, siempre con la cámara colgada alrededor de su cuello, lista para fotografiar otra gema. A lo largo de los años de su corta vida, Michael logró atesorar una colección de alrededor de 70000 imágenes que hoy son amorosamente tuteladas por Adam y su mujer Silvia. El rango de personalidades retratados por él va desde Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon, John Lennon, Twiggy, William Burroughs, René Magritte, Marcel Duchamp y Audrey Hepburn entre otros íconos.
La exposición “Stones 50” es un homenaje al 50º aniversario del primer recital de la banda, incluye un audiovisual documental y una serie de óleos homenaje a la obra de Michael por el artista Juan Carlos Bolea y Cuenta con la curaduría de Virginia Fabri y Silvia Cooper
La muestra permanecerá abierta hasta finales de febrero de 2014

The Michael Cooper Collection open next Thursday 13 December at the Borges Cultural Centre the exhibition " 50 Stones " .
This is a selection of 100 "fine art photographs " of the mythic Rolling Stones, captured by legendary British photographer Michael Cooper ( 1941-1973 ) . Be present Adam Cooper, the photographer son who lived with the group until age 9.
The sample , consisting of photos taken in the 60's, documents the early years of the set ( created in 1962 ) during which Cooper practically lived with the band. Meanwhile, American journalist and writer Terry Southern wrote: " Michael was a great artist and a firm believer that art in any form would make this world a better place . His magnificent work confirms this with greatness , he was a person with a vision and extraordinary love. I do not think I'll find someone like him again. "
A lesser known aspect of Michael Cooper is the fact of having collaborated in the first adaptation of the novel "A Clockwork Orange " by Anthony Burgess, proposing starring Mick Jagger and the gang leader and the other members of Rolling Stones as part thereof . This project was never realized .
His son Adam Cooper remembers him as a free and independent spirit , always with the camera around his neck, ready to shoot another gem .
