El Blues llega a Buenos Aires , de la mano de John Primer


John Primer, el guitarrista más importante del Blues de Chicago regresa a Buenos Aires para dar un único show en La Trastienda. Ganador de varios Blues Awards y nominado a lo premios Grammy 2010, John Primer ingresó este año al Salón de la Fama del Blues. 

John Primer nació el 3 de marzo de 1945, en el pequeño pueblo de Camden, Mississippi. A los 8 años tomó prestada una guitarra y comenzó a sacar las canciones de Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Little Milton, Elmore James, B.B. y Albert King que sonaban en la radio de su abuela. Su aprendizaje musical se vio enriquecido por los spirituals y gospels que cantaba en la Iglesia Baptista, pero fue recién a los 18 cuando decidió radicarse en Chicago y probar suerte en el competitivo mundo del Blues. 

A gusto en los clubes del West y del South Side, John lideró una banda que combinaba Blues, Soul y R&B desde 1963 hasta que en 1974 pasó a ser parte de la banda oficial del club Theresa's Lounge. En los siguientes 5 años, tocó con Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Lonnie Brooks, Smokey Smothers, Sammy Lawhorn y prácticamente todos los bluesmen de la Ciudad de los Vientos, que consideraban al club una parada obligada después de sus shows. 

En 1979, el gran Willie Dixon, compositor, bajista y cazador de talentos en innumerables sesiones para Chess Records, convocó a John para que sea parte de sus All Stars, con los que giró por Estados Unidos, México y Europa. Poco después de un año en la carretera, Muddy Waters lo reclutó como guitarrista, posición en la que permaneció hasta su muerte en 1983. Durante la visita de los Rolling Stones al Checkerboard Lounge de Chicago para rendirle homenaje al responsable de su nombre, se puede ver a un joven John con una Telecaster, detrás de un exultante Mick Jagger. 

Durante los siguientes 13 años, John Primer fue miembro de los legendarios Teardrops de Magic Slim, la banda más trabajadora del circuito de Chicago, aunque sus giras lo llevaron literalmente por todo el mundo. Con Slim se cimentó su reputación como una de las grandes promesas del blues, ocupando siempre un lugar destacado dentro de sus shows. 

Desde mediados de los 90s, John se dedicó de lleno a su carrera como solista, formó The Real Deal Blues Band y editó hasta el momento 14 discos para sellos como Wolf Records, Earwig, Telarc, y Code Blue, subsidiaria de Warner. En su último trabajo, "All Originals" (editado en su propio sello, Blue House Productions), John se destapó como un gran compositor, pero permaneciendo en la línea de sus mentores: Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Elmore James y Magic Slim. 

En las últimas tres décadas, John realizó innumerables sesiones como guitarrista y ocasional productor en discos de Jimmy Rogers, Little Milton, Hubert Sumlin, Phil Guy, Lurrie Bell, James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins, Big Jack Johnson, Sunnyland Slim, Nick Holt, Valerie Wellington, Willie Kent, Jerry "Boogie" McCain, Little Mack Simmons, L.V. Banks, Big Wheeler, Byther Smith, Lester Davenport, Louis Myers, Otis Smokey Smothers, Alabama Junior Pettis, Bonnie Lee, Andrew "Big Voice" Odom, Carl Weathersby, Willie Buck, Jesse Thomas, Matthew Skoller, Vance Kelly, Big Mamma Thornton, Shirley Johnson, Johnny Laws, Big Daddy Kinsey, Eddie Shaw y su hijo "Vaan", entre otros. 

En febrero de 2010 fue nominado al Grammy de Blues Tradicional por su participación en el disco "Chicago Blues: A Living History", ganó el premio de los críticos de Living Blues como "Artista Masculino del Año" (también fue tapa del número #205 de la revista). En los Blues Music Awards, John recibió nominaciones como “Artista de Blues Tradicional”, una doble nominación por “Album Tradicional” ("All Originals" y "Chicago Blues") y también al Album del Año. Y en el especial por el 40ª aniversario de Living Blues, "All Originals" ocupó el puesto 20 entre los mejores CDs de la década. 

En 2012 John Primer ganó el Blues Music Awards al “Album Tradicional del Año” por “Chicago Blues A Living History the (R)evolution Continues”, y además recibió nominaciones en las categorías “Album del Año” y “Artista Tradicional del Año”. 

A mediados de 2012, la publicación de su nuevo álbum “Blues On Solid Ground” cosechó halagos y una importante cobertura mediática en las revistas especializadas, junto con nuevas nominaciones para los Blues Music Awards en la categoría “Album Acústico” y nuevamente como “Artista Tradicional”. 

Eso no es todo, el Blues Hall Of Fame acaba de anunciar que el 28 de abril de 2013 John Primer será admitido en el presigioso “Salón de la Fama del Blues”, un honor solo reservado a las más grandes figuras del género. 

Sin dudas, el 2013 será un año importante en la carrera de John Primer y la oportunidad de verlo una vez más en vivo en Argentina y Sudamérica llega con exclusividad de la mano de MGB Producciones.

John Primer , the most important guitarist of Chicago Blues returns to Buenos Aires to give a single show in The Hidden . Winner of several Blues Awards and nominated for the 2010 Grammy Awards , John Primer joined this year to the Hall of Fame Blues.

John Primer was born on March 3, 1945 , in the small town of Camden , Mississippi. At age 8 he borrowed a guitar and started taking the songs of Jimmy Reed , Muddy Waters, Little Milton , Elmore James , BB and Albert King who played on the radio from his grandmother. His musical training was enriched by singing spirituals and gospels in the Baptist church , but it was only at 18 when he decided to settle in Chicago and try your luck in the competitive world of Blues.

At ease in the clubs of West and South Side, John led a band that combined Blues , Soul and R & B from 1963 until in 1974 it became part of the official club band Theresa 's Lounge. In the following five years , he played with Junior Wells , Buddy Guy , James Cotton , Lonnie Brooks , Smokey Smothers , Sammy Lawhorn and virtually all bluesmen of the Windy City , they considered the club a must after his shows .

In February 2010 he was nominated for Traditional Blues Grammy for his participation in the album " Chicago Blues: A Living History " won the Living Blues critics as " Male Artist of the Year " (he was also cap the number # 205 of the journal ) . In the Blues Music Awards, John was nominated as " Traditional Blues Artist " , a double nomination for " Traditional Album " ( " All Originals " and " Chicago Blues" ) and Album of the Year also .
