John Lennon y Paul McCartney asistieron al almuerzo del Variety Club de Gran Bretaña en el Hotel Savoy donde recibieron el premio por “Top Vocal Group of the Year”.

En la tarde del 9 de Septiembre, el manager de los Rolling Stones y ex-publicista de Nems Enterprises, Andrew Oldham, estaba caminando cuesta abajo por la calle Jermyn, cuando un taxi se paró a un lado esperando por el cambio de luces del semáforo. La ventana del vidrio se bajó y una voz de "Liverpool" dijo: “Súbete Andy”. Habían pasado apenas unos cuantos meses desde que Andrew Loog Oldham había dejado de trabajar como agente de prensa para Los Beatles.
En el taxi se encontraban John Lennon y Paul McCartney que regresaban a su hotel después de almorzar. Conociendo que a Los Beatles les gustaban los Rolling Stones, Andrew le comentó que estaba buscando canciones para que ellos pudieran grabar. John Lennon y Paul McCartney inmediatamente le sugirieron que tal vez le gustaría escuchar algo que acababan de componer, llamado “I Wanna Be Your Man” y que pensaron que podría ser la indicada. Andrew iba a encontrarse con los Stones en el estudio de Ken Colyer en la 51 Great Newport, en el Soho, y John y Paul le comentaron que les gustaría ir con él.
En el club les prestaron un par de guitarras de Brian y Keith y se lanzaron a tocar la canción. Había solo un pequeño problema: la canción no tenía el “Middle Eight” o puente. Después de una pequeña conferencia, John y Paul le dijeron que si a ellos realmente les gustaba la canción, la terminarían de inmediato. Se apartaron a un lado de la habitación y reaparecieron a los pocos minutos.
“¿Olvidaron algo?”, les preguntó Bill Wyman.
“No” dijo Paul, “ya terminamos el ‘middle eight’, a ver ¿qué les parece?”

On the afternoon of September 9 , the manager of the Rolling Stones and former publicist Nems Enterprises, Andrew Oldham , was walking downhill on Jermyn Street when a taxi stopped at the side waiting for the traffic lights change . The glass window was down and a voice of "Liverpool" said : "Get Andy" . It had been just a few months since Andrew Loog Oldham had stopped working as press officer for The Beatles.
In the taxi were John Lennon and Paul McCartney returning to their hotel after lunch. Knowing that they liked the Beatles the Rolling Stones, Andrew told him I was looking for songs for them to record . John Lennon and Paul McCartney immediately suggested he perhaps you would like to hear something that had just composed , called "I Wanna Be Your Man" and thought it might be the one. Andrew was meeting with the Stones in the studio of Ken Colyer on 51 Great Newport , Soho , and John and Paul told her that they would go with him.
In the club they borrowed a few guitars of Brian and Keith and took to playing the song. There was only one problem : the song did not have the "Middle Eight" or bridge. After a short conference, John and Paul was told that if they really liked the song, would end immediately. They parted to one side of the room and reappeared a few minutes.
" Did they forget something ? " Asked Bill Wyman .
" No," said Paul , " and ended the ' middle eight ' and see what you think? "
and so the Rolling Stones nested to "I Wanna Be Your Man"
