Antes del show de mañana en Niceto Club, el corista de The Rolling Stones Bernard Fowler charló con RockDT sobre sus inicios en la banda, su nuevo disco solista, entre otras cosas.
Desde hace 27 años, Bernard Fowler es corista de The Rolling Stones y también un fiel admirador del rock de nuestro país. Viaja con frecuencia y en esta ocasión estará tocando mañana a las 21 hs en Niceto Club, Niceto Vega 5510, abordando tanto su carrera como solista con su disco “Friends with privilegies” (2006) como clásicos de los Stones. Ha grabado con más de 30 artistas y con Mick Jagger y compañía ya van 15. Su primer acercamiento a la música fue con la música house con su grupo NYC Peech Boys. “Sí, absolutamente tengo relación con ese tipo de música. No solo cantaba sino también escribía las canciones. Fue una de las primeras bandas que tuve, los términos ‘música house o garage’ provenían del estilo que hicimos”, cuenta Fowler a RockDT. El cantante y productor habló con RockDT sobre sus inicios en la banda inglesa, su nuevo disco solista y el show de mañana en Niceto Club.
Después de 15 discos grabados con The Rolling Stones, ¿Te acordás como fue esa primera audición si la hubo? ¿Recordás cuando te comunicaron que seguirías en la banda?
No hice ninguna audición para la banda. No fue necesaria porque Mick me dijo que lo haga, supongo que me eligieron después de mis arreglos vocales para el LP “Steel Wheels” (1985). La próxima llamada ya fue para participar de la gira.
Desde entonces continuaste con ellos, ya llevas 27 años y de alguna forma viniste a celebrarlos, ¿Cómo vivís esta experiencia?
No estoy celebrando mis 27 años, estoy acá para celebrar los 50 años de The Rolling Stones. ¿Qué mejor lugar para hacerlo que en Argentina donde están los más grandes fanáticos de la banda? Realmente nunca pensé sobre mi tiempo compartido con the Stones aunque me lo pregunten. Estoy honrado de ser parte de algo grandioso por tanto tiempo.
En el medio, como solista editaste en 2006 “Friends with privilegies”, ¿Tenes pensado lanzar otro álbum solista?
Estoy actualmente trabajando en un nuevo disco y estoy bastante expectante acerca de él. Tengo grandes músicos, incluyendo a Slash que se sumó al estudio conmigo la semana pasada. El calibre de músicos que hay es muy alto y estoy muy ansioso de que ustedes lo escuchen.
La banda que te acompañará en el show de mañana en Niceto Club está compuesta por músicos argentinos. ¿Cómo fue la última experiencia con ellos?
Mi experiencia con ellos tiende a ser siempre buena, por eso es que continuo con ellos. Tengo músicos en los que confío que me traerán o presentarán otros buenos porque saben que mi standard es alto. Tuve un pequeño problema en la búsqueda un tecladista que pueda cuadrar en lo que estoy tratando de hacer pero se solucionó cuando me presentaron a Nico Raffetta, a quien me introdujeron cuando estuve aquí produciendo a una banda local llamada Los Congrejos. Tiene un sentimiento increíble y es un gran músico. Los ensayos son usualmente largos y duros porque me gusta ensayar a veces puntualmente algunas pequeñas cosas.
¿Cómo será el show?
Será una gran fiesta para conmemorar los 50 años de The Stones haciendo felices a tantas personas, por eso en esa noche tocaremos solo canciones que nunca he tocado antes e incluso tendremos algunos invitados especiales locales del rock de Buenos Aires. Hay muchísimos grandiosos pero solo puedo tener a alguno de ellos.
Por último, sabes de la relación estrecha entre los fanáticos argentinos y The Rolling Stones, ¿Vendrán al país nuevamente?
Nuevamente me encantaría responder esa pregunta pero creo que deberías obtener la respuesta de alguno de ellos. Desde ya te agradezco por el apoyo y esta entrevista.

After 15 albums recorded with The Rolling Stones, Do you remember how it was that first hearing whether there ? Do you remember when you told that would follow in the band?
I made no audition for the band. It was not necessary because Mick told me to do , I guess I chose after my vocal arrangements for the LP "Steel Wheels" ( 1985 ) . The next call and was to participate in the tour.
Since then you continued with them, and take 27 years and somehow came to celebrate , how you live this experience?
I'm celebrating my 27 years , I'm here to celebrate 50 years of The Rolling Stones. What better place to do that in Argentina where the biggest fans of the band? I never really thought about my time spent with the Stones though I asked. I'm honored to be part of something great for so long.
In between solo edited them in 2006 "Friends with privilegies " You got ? Plans to launch another solo album ?
I'm currently working on a new album and I'm quite expectantly about him . I have great musicians , including Slash who joined the studio with me last week. The caliber of musicians that there is very high and I am very anxious for you to hear .
The band will accompany you on the show tomorrow in Niceto Club is composed of musicians. How was your last experience with them ?
My experience with them tends to be always good, that's why we continued with them . I have musicians that I trust I shall bring or produce other good because they know that my standard is high. I had a little problem in finding a keyboard that can add up in what I'm trying to do but it was resolved when I was introduced to Nico Raffetta , who introduced me when I was here producing a local band called The Congrejos . It is an amazing feeling and a great musician. Rehearsals are usually long and hard because sometimes I like to try some small things promptly .
How will the show?
It will be a great party to celebrate 50 years of The Stones bringing happiness to so many people, so that night we will play only songs that I've never played before and even have some special guests Rock local Buenos Aires . There are many great but I can only have one of them .
Finally , know of the close relationship between the Argentine fans and The Rolling Stones, Will they come to the country again?
Again I would love to answer that question but I think you should get the answer to any of them. From already thank you for the support and this interview .
