Rolling Stones llegan a un acuerdo editorial con BMG

Keith Richards y Mick Jagger firmaron un pacto para que la empresa represente su catálogo musical; el acuerdo es el primero que realizan los músicos con una compañía externa en 40 años.

 Frankfurt, Alemania (Reuters) — Los Rolling Stones llegaron a un acuerdo y cerraron un nuevo contrato editorial, justo cuando se acerca una serie de conciertos que posiblemente aumente el interés por el catálogo musical de la legendaria banda inglesa de rock.

BMG, parte de la editorial alemana Bertelsmann, ha firmado un acuerdo para representar el catálogo musical de los Stones, que están de gira celebrando sus 50 años en el mundo de la música.

La compañía no dio una valuación del contrato, en el que las responsabilidades de BMG abarcarán desde comercializar y dar licencias de canciones para películas, televisión y publicidad hasta asegurarse de que se paga a los compositores correctamente por el uso de sus obras en los diversos servicios de música digital.

Es el primer nuevo acuerdo editorial con una compañía externa en 40 años para Keith Richards y Mick Jagger, la dupla que lidera a los Stones y quienes comparten los derechos de las letras de muchos de los éxitos más conocidos de la banda.

EMI Music Publishing, que posee las canciones de la banda que se editaron desde 1971 a 1983, fue la última en firmar un acuerdo con ellos antes de que los Stones se hicieran con el control de sus propias composiciones.

BMG asumirá a partir del 1 de julio la responsabilidad directa de todas las canciones compuestas por Jagger y Richards desde 1983. Adicionalmente, será responsable de la gestión de las acciones de la pareja sobre sus derechos de autor anteriores a 1983, con canciones como "Angie" y "Brown Sugar".

"Este acuerdo es increíblemente importante para BMG", dijo en un comunicado el presidente ejecutivo de la compañía, Hartwig Mausch. "Keith y Mick han creado una de las colecciones de canciones más espectaculares en la historia del rock and roll", agregó.

Los Stones, quienes publicaron su primer sencillo -una versión de "Come On" de Chuck Berry- en 1963, se están preparando para actuar en el festival británico de Glastonbury este fin de semana antes de tocar más fechas durante el verano en Londres.

El acuerdo con BMG se produce tras remasterizar todo su catálogo musical para iTunes Store de Apple la semana pasada.

 Frankfurt, Germany (Reuters) - The Rolling Stones came to an agreement and closed a new publishing deal, just as it approaches a series of concerts that possibly increase the interest in the musical catalog of legendary English rock band.

BMG, part of the German publisher Bertelsmann, has signed an agreement to represent the musical catalog of the Stones, who are on tour celebrating his 50 years in the music world.

The company did not give a valuation of the contract, in which BMG responsibilities will range from market and to license songs for movies, television and advertising to ensure that composers are paid correctly by the use of their works in the various services digital music.

It is the first new publishing deal with a foreign company in 40 years to Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, the duo led the Stones and the rights of those who share the lyrics of many of the best known hits of the band.

EMI Music Publishing, which owns the band's songs that were published from 1971 to 1983, was the last to sign an agreement with them before the Stones were made to the control of his own compositions.

BMG assume from July 1 direct responsibility for all songs written by Jagger and Richards since 1983. Additionally, will be responsible for managing operations of the couple on their copyrights prior to 1983, with songs like "Angie" and "Brown Sugar".

"This agreement is incredibly important to BMG," he said in a statement the company CEO, Hartwig Mausch. "Keith and Mick have created one of the most spectacular collections of songs in the history of rock and roll," he added.

The Stones, who released their first single, a version of "Come On" by Chuck Berry in 1963, are preparing to perform at the British festival Glastonbury this weekend before playing more dates during the summer in London.

The agreement with BMG remaster comes after all their music catalog to Apple's iTunes Store last week.
