Ronnie Wood : Para mí, mi arte es sólo otra manera de expresarme

El Jueves 11 de abril fue la inauguración de mi nueva exposición de arte en una galería de arte en Mayfair. No estoy seguro de si mucha gente sabe que yo pinto como, lógicamente, todo el mundo quiere hablar de los Stones, Glastonbury y la gira en estos momentos. Pero sí, es un hecho poco conocido que en realidad comencé la pintura antes de que tomé  una guitarra.

Creo que las personas son 'sólo creativas' y esto se puede expresar en un número de maneras. Bob Dylan y David Bowie crean la música y el arte. Miguel Ángel pudo pintar y esculpir. Para mí, es sólo otra manera de expresarme.

Una de las cosas que más me gustan está empezando algo que es totalmente suya, conceptual y artísticamente, y verlo hasta el final, sin intervención de nadie, una dinámica totalmente diferente a estar en una banda, que es un crisol de opiniones e influencias.

Uno de los artistas que más admiro es Caravaggio. Vi algunos de sus tesoros descubiertos recientemente, donde se había utilizado la pintura de aceite que dejó , paneles inacabados expuestos de dibujo de tiza. Traté de volver a crear algo parecido a una pieza en mi reciente exposición, pero no estoy seguro de que he hecho lo bastante bien!

Era todo un personaje volátil, como muchas personas creativas, que estuvo al borde de la locura y el genio, me parece fascinante, ya través de algunas de sus obras se puede ver cómo a menudo era  un lugar oscuro

Por otro lado, también me gusta menos cosas "pesadas", a veces me alejo de los aceites y me gusta dibujar o esbozo, retratos sencillos - creo en algún lugar entre Henri Matisse y Egon Schiele, las formas del cuerpo distorsionada y retorcida de Schiele y la líneas simplistas de Matisse.

He creado una gran cantidad de dibujos de los "chicos" también, a veces, entre series voy a agarrar un cuaderno de dibujo y me pongo a dibujar frenéticamente a Charlie o Mick.

Lograr que se mantenga  todavía un poco de desafío, pero es una versión maravillosa para mí en la frenética energía de un concierto o de la intensidad de un tour.

Estoy seguro de que obtendré un poco de unica inspiración después de tocar en Glastonbury este año.

Ronnie Wood : For Me, My Art's Just Another Way to Express Myself

Thursday 11 April was the opening of my new art exhibition at an art gallery in Mayfair. I'm not sure if many people know that I paint as, understandably, everyone wants to talk about the Stones, Glastonbury and the tour right now. But yes, it's a little known fact that I actually started painting before I even picked up a guitar.

I think people are 'just creative' and this can be expressed in a number of ways. Bob Dylan and David Bowie create both music and art. Michelangelo could paint and sculpt. For me, it's just another way of expressing myself.

One of the things I like most is starting something that is entirely yours, conceptually and artistically, and seeing it through to the end, with no input from anyone else; an entirely different dynamic to being in a band, which is a melting pot of opinions and influences.

One of the artists I admire most is Caravaggio. I saw some of his recently discovered treasures, where he had used oil paint which left exposed raw, unfinished panels of chalk drawing. I tried to recreate something similar for a piece in my recent exhibition, but I'm not sure I've quite done him justice!

He was quite a volatile character, like many creative people, he teetered on the edge of lunacy and genius, I find this fascinating and through some of his work you can see how dark a place he was often in.

On the flip side, I also like less 'heavy' stuff, sometimes I move away from the oils and like to draw or sketch, uncomplicated portraiture - somewhere between Henri Matisse and Egon Schiele I think; distorted and twisted body shapes from Schiele and the simplistic lines of Matisse.

I've created a lot of drawings of the guys too, sometimes, in between sets I'll grab a sketch pad and just start frantically drawing Charlie or Mick.

Getting them to keep still is a bit of a challenge, but it's a wonderful release for me in the frenetic energy of a gig or the intensity of a tour.

I'm sure I'll get some unique inspiration after playing at Glastonbury this year.
