Keith Richards save a radio station ("Radio Angel", the Isle of Wight, UK) Angel Radio, a small radio station in the Isle of Wight, southern Britain, was about to close after a lightning strike destroyed its transmitter last July. The largest contributor to the fundraising campaign for their salvation has been nothing less than the veteran guitarist of the Rolling Stone.
The director of Angel Radio, Bev Webster says, told a local newspaper, lightning destroyed the transmitter of the station last July and forced them to close the radio for three days.
Knowing financially unable to pay compensation for the transmitter, the station that programs music from the first half of the twentieth century, decided to start a gathering among his followers to get the money.
However, they did not expect one of the checks arrived, worth 3,400 euros, out of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. In fact, the station manager said that at first thought it was a joke.
"Keith do not know if we hear on the Internet or may not tune when played at the Isle of Wight Festival a few years ago, but could not take our word that we received your check in the mail," says Webster.
When checking the check, they realized that the gift was real and that the author was indeed Keith Richards. A spokesman confirmed the donation of the guitar to the local newspaper, but rejected any kind of declaration.
