Rolling Stones in Argentina: the tug for a business of U$S 30 million

The British band will be between 3 and 5 concerts in 2015. Grinbank, Fenix and T4f offer stadiums, sponsors and guarantees for your organization.

The wait is nothing sweet. The three companies that are in dispute to stay with the organization of the shows, which will provide the Rolling Stones in the country, waiting for the next days a definition on what will be the owner of a business whose turnover could exceed U$S 30 million . The figure could be significantly higher, depending on the number of concerts in the English band made its fourth and possibly last visit to Argentina.

The Stones, touring the world to celebrate their 50 years of experience, evaluate proposals Fenix, the T4f (Time for Fun) Brazilian and DG Productions, producer Daniel Grinbank, the entrepreneur who brought the group led by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards the previous three times. The struggle between the companies is logical candidates: at stake is the largest show for the last three years. At the market anticipating success. Fernando Moya, t4f, explained that the current tour of the Rolling has special relevance to the public, considering it "is his farewell."

For months that has been negotiating the contract. Grinbank believes has an advantage, for his long relationship with the band and the friendship he has with Jagger and Richards. So confident was on the progress of the talks, which last May told the local edition of Rolling Stone: "You're right, we'm optimistic." And he even anticipate that tickets would have to cost an average of U$S 150 and U$S 200.

Since then, Grinbank is called silence. Some believe his statements caused discomfort in the office manager of the band. Others believe that Fenix and T4f, improved supply Grinbank, and therefore silent. "This must be resolved within 10 days, maximum," agree the sector.

The bargaining over the division of revenues, covering different angles: tickets, sponsors and stadium. Two producers (T4f and Grinbank) pushed for the Stadium Unique of La Plata. Fenix, meanwhile, offered River Plate Stadium, which has exclusive use for live performances. The Rolling Stones have a guaranteed minimum of U S 2.5 million for show, plus a variable bonus, ticket sales, advertising and many concerts. Like other market sources, Moya says that the band will end up charging in Argentina "between 3.5 and 4 million U$S" for each function.

The bulky amounts handled, refer to the remarkable success of Roger Waters. In 2012, former Pink Floyd gave 9 shows in River Plate Stadium , which marked public records and collection. Nearly 450,000 tickets sold in total and U$S 38 million turnover, with an average ticket of u$s 102 -producing calculated that to solve the return of the Rolling Stones, a value very similar input is required as a minimum.

The proposal is that the band performed 3 to 5 concerts, "between March and early April 2015." Some think that the high costs of the organization of these shows, go against the current recessive economic context of Argentina, with people cutting costs considered superfluous, as outputs, dining and entertainment. Still, the producers, are convinced that the English band "is a safe business and be the biggest hit of the season."

Recession and less supply, the entertainment market, as already said, is suffering the effects of the slowdown in consumption. The current season of concerts, fell for that and also for the effect of the World, which cut them drinking calendar dates to narrow the producing shows. In addition, there are few bands and artists doing tours for the region, an indispensable condition to supply local industry. "We are doing what is," says Moya, T4f and former manager of Charly García, Fito Paez and Sumo.

From Fenix agreed, but they took off dramatics at present. "The season is good. Not great, but it's good. "In this regard, they say that the crisis is not the main factor: "What happens is that there are fewer artists touring the region and that reduces the supply." Anyway, say the business today has more risks. "You have to be more careful in everything: what you pay to artists and the value of the inputs, because sponsors are also adjusted."

Matias Loizaga , entertainment director of the production company Pop Art, part of a national business group headed by Roberto Costa, concurs in the assessment: "This is a rare season with the World. We do not go to hire like crazy, because the crisis affects the business, "said the executive. Pop Art was the promoter responsible for organizing the tour last explosive Waters by Argentina. Today, the company retracted its claims and bet mainly to national bands.

For Grinbank worth mentioning. Under his "Rock & Pop Productions", was responsible for bringing many of the highest grossing international bands between the late 80s and early 2000s: besides the Rolling Stones, hired among others, U2, Paul McCartney, Madonna , Eric Clapton, The Police, Metallica, Guns N 'Roses, AC / DC, Nirvana and closed the concert tour in support of Amnesty International.

"Rock & Pop Productions" was sold to Mexican giant CIE and later T4f, a transaction that included the clause is not up, which kept him out of the business of the concerts until August 2013. Therefore, Grinbank was for 5 years, an "external adviser" to t4f. And today looking to reenter the market for live concerts.

With respect to the fourth visit of the Rolling Stones in the market no one knows who will prevail. "Grinbank is having more chances, because it was that brought you the other times, but that does not mean you win," confided a recognized entrepreneur with extensive experience in the industry. Others believe that the band will be inclined River (in the hands of Fenix) or the international support that has T4f. The only certainty is that Stones fans finally held.

Cucho Peñaloza : "tour 2015 The Rolling Stones South America! It is not confirmed "

The news has stirred social networks these days, has been the possible arrival of The Rolling Stones to Lima, especially. The Argentina page "Rolling Stones OK" (1) said that between February and March 2015, there was the possibility of a tour of South America including Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica and Peru (2). But before setting up false hopes we prefer to speak with authority on the subject.

In this regard, Cucho Peñaloza known specialist in The Rolling Stones and former host of the TV Rock in Peru, we paint the best picture. First, whenever there has been speculation about the arrival of The Rolling Stones to Peru, especially the visits had Mick Jagger to Peru, in 1968, 1981 and most recently in 2011. And when you consider that the national economy and the growing support of sponsors concerts, date of the Rolling Stones in Lima does not sound so far-fetched.

However, Cucho Peñaloza is clear in saying that the tour in South America from 2015 to date is not confirmed. According to him, people from the staff of The Rolling Stones, has told him that there are intentions to return to the region but still nothing official to Brazil and Argentina Peru.  Cucho Peñaloza  explains that these rumors arose after the tour of Australia was postponed by the death of L'Wren Scott, which now passes through October and November. This gave rise to the rumor that they might come to South America.

Another important factor is that the ages of the members of the Rolling Stones, who border about 70 years, preventing them to tour with the number shows they did in 2005 and 2006.  Hence, Cucho considered sensible to think that if would only be for a few dates. This means it is very likely that this 2015 will be the last chance we get to see the South American dde The Rollin Stones.

Also tells us that we must consider that for this 2015 tours also AC / DC and U2 rumored, with The Rolling Stones who share personal and production companies. This make it difficult for these tours are given simultaneously, which again doubt the touring South America. Finally, Cucho explains that materialize the alleged date of Lima, this would be the most expensive concert in the history of Peru, bordering approximately $ 5 million.
