El documental 'A 20 pasos de la fama' , desplazó el foco hasta las 'background singers', las coristas que apoyan , y dan esplendor a los grandes del rock. Una de ellas es Lisa Fischer, corista de los Rolling Stones, entre 1989 y el 2015, enrolada también en giras, que emprende ahora un nuevo rumbo en solitario con parada, este Viernes 20 de Mayo, 2016 - 7:30 PM en Barbican (Silk Street , London, United Kingdom)
Es una sorpresa verla como artista en solitario. ¿Una respuesta al impacto de la película? Sí, en buena medida es así. La película hizo posible , que mucha gente, se diera cuenta del trabajo de los coristas. Fue un proyecto muy emocionante.
¿Qué pensó , cuando el realizador Morgan Neville , le dijo: "Vamos a hacer un documental sobre las coristas"? ¡Oh, Dios mío! ¡De entrada pensé que estaba loco! . Vino a verme a un concierto de Sting , y su idea me pareció bonita y loca. En Nueva York , nos conocemos casi todos, pero no había coincidido nunca con Merry Clayton, la voz original de 'Gimme shelter', ni con Táta Vega. Fue muy bonito.
Da la impresión , de que nunca quiso ser una estrella, sino que su meta era, simplemente, cantar. Muchos de mis amigos tenían un objetivo claro: componer, buscar un contrato… Yo era feliz formando parte de un grupo, ensamblando las voces, las armonías.
¿Sus raíces están en el soul? Mis abuelas cantaban en la iglesia, y se aseguraron de que sus nietos , lo hicieran también. Canté ahí , y luego en casa , crecí escuchando mucha Tamla Motown, y Nat King Cole, Otis Redding, Diana Ross …
Su empleo con los Rolling Stones, comenzó con ‘Steel wheels’ (1989), disco y gira. Primero trabajé con Mick Jagger, en su gira en solitario, y cuando los Stones decidieron reunirse, lo más fácil fue mantenerme. Aprendí mucho con Mick, me enseñó a cantar su música. Fue una experiencia vital , más allá de la música.
Con momentos de lucimiento: 'Gimme shelter'. Antes de 1989 , no llevaban vocalistas femeninas en las giras, y para mí , fue una oportunidad, de transmitir energía y de vivir la belleza de esa canción. La forma en que Keith Richards la toca Gimme Shelter , es como si alguien estuviese llorando. ¡Les doy las gracias por haberla compuesto!
¿Por qué cree que siguen tocando? Por amor a la música: la viven, respiran y disfrutan, y ese amor va y viene , como una pelota , entre el escenario y el público, y sigue y sigue...
¿Es natural que una banda de rock’n’roll incluya voces de soul para transmitir pasión? Tiene sentido pensando que blues y soul, era lo que escuchaban cuando empezaron. Cuando Merry Clayton , entró en el estudio, para grabar 'Gimme shelter', en 1969, fue un paso, en esa evolución natural. Y conmigo, otro paso más.
En 1991 , publicó un disco en solitario, 'So intense', que le dio un 'hit' y un Grammy. ¿Por qué no grabó más? Iba a hacerlo, pero el presidente de la compañía se fue, me mudé a otro sello , y ahí acabaron cambiando de idea, y me quedé sin compañía. Estuve un tiempo afectada, confusa. Pero lo único que quería era cantar y seguí.
Ya no está con los Stones. No, no fui a Sudamerica con ellos, porque he tenido ofertas maravillosas , para dar mis propios conciertos. Estoy en un buen momento, aunque los echo de menos. Eran una familia para mí.
¿Hay que ser valiente para decir no a los Rolling Stones? [Carcajada] ¡No sé si valiente o loca! Da miedo, sí, pero eso, me ha conectado con mi perfil de cantante: hay tantas canciones maravillosas en el mundo, esperando ser cantadas... Estoy en un momento muy abierto, puedo hacer lo que siempre soñé, y empiezo a ver los brotes verdes.
