Andrew Loog Oldham "Han secuestrado el nombre del 'Rock n' Roll'"

Andrew Loog Oldham no asistirá a la ceremonia de inducción de  Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, en la que será reconocido junto al manager de The Beatles, Brian Epstein. "Es un espectáculo. Difícilmente se trata de Rock n' Roll", dijo.

A Oldham, quien vive en Bogotá desde hace 35 años, le molestó que los organizadores no se comunicaran con él, y que no incluyeran música en el corto segmento que le dedicarían a su reconocimiento.

Oldham tenía 19 años cuando pasó a ser manager de unos jóvenes Rolling Stones. Ayudó a forjar la imagen pública de la banda y alentó a Mick Jagger y a Keith Richards a que escribieran sus propias canciones. 

"Creo que esa gente básicamente secuestró el nombre del rock n' roll.

 No estaré ahí. Eso es un show de televisión" - dijo Oldham hace unas semanas durante una charla en la Escuela de Liderazgo Creativo en Berlín.

"El Hall de la Fama ha cambiado con los tiempos. Creo que se ha vuelto un evento para actos musicales, para espectáculos (...) es una lástima". "Hace veinte años - siguió Oldham- se trataba de una fiesta increíble en el Waldorf-Astoria, y luego se volvió un negocio. Me parece más saludable permanecer en casa".  

Oldham será reconocido junto a Brian Epstein, quien fuera manager de los Beatles, como parte de las celebraciones que el Hall de la Fama adelanta para conmemorar los 50 años de la llamada 'invasión británica' cuando los Stones, y sobre todo, los Beatles conquistaron a los Estados Unidos.

En declaraciones a Los Angeles Times Oldham aseguró que aunque al comienzo se alegró por el reconocimiento, no está de acuerdo en que el homenaje no incluya música relacionada a su carrera. "Sin música, un productor/manager queda reducido a 'aparecer' como los notarios de los Óscar, o los Grammy" - dijo, y se quejó de que no hubo una aproximación o discusión previa por parte de los organizadores. 

Además, se mostró molesto por la idea general del reconocimiento compartido a él y a Epstein. "Al apretarnos a los dos en una 'Promoción del 64 de managers de la invasión británica' dejaríamos de lado la razón de nuestro reconocimiento: nuestros artistas".

Los nombres de Oldham y Brian Epstein se unirán a KISS, Nirvana, Hall & Oates y a Linda Ronstadt, quienes serán reconocidos en la ceremonia 2014 el jueves 10 de abril en Nueva York.

Oldham no es el único homenajeado que decide no asistir a la ceremonia. En 1997, Neil Young no fue, los Sex Pistols tampoco, y el año pasado, Axl Rose, líder de Guns n' Roses, tampoco apareció aunque sí lo hicieron sus excompañeros de banda encabezados por Slash. Este año, Gene Simmons y Paul Stanley, miembros fundadores de KISS, asistirán pero se negaron a tocar en vivo porque sus actuales compañeros de banda no serán homenajeados con ellos.

Andrew Loog Oldham will not attend the induction ceremony Rock and Roll Hall of Fame , which will be recognized by the Beatles' manager , Brian Epstein. 

"It's a show. Hardly comes to Rock n 'Roll ," said .

Oldham , who lives in Bogota for 35 years , was annoyed that the organizers did not communicate with him, and that did not include the short segment music you would give recognition.

Oldham was 19 when he became manager of young Rolling Stones. It helped shape the public image of the band and encouraged Mick Jagger and Keith Richards to write their own songs.

"I think that people basically hijacked the name of rock n 'roll.

 I will not be there. That's a TV show " - Oldham said a few weeks ago during a talk at the School of Creative Leadership in Berlin.

" The Hall of Fame has changed with the times . Believe it has become an event for musical acts for shows ( ... ) it's a shame ." "Twenty years ago - Oldham followed - it was an amazing party at the Waldorf- Astoria, and then became a business I think stay at home healthier . " .

Oldham will be recognized with Brian Epstein , who was manager of the Beatles, as part of the celebrations for the Hall of Fame forward to commemorate 50 years of the so-called ' British invasion ' when the Stones, and especially the Beatles conquered to the United States .

Speaking to Los Angeles Times Oldham said that although the beginning was pleased by the recognition , it is agreed that the tribute not include music related to his career. " Without music , producer / manager is reduced to ' appear ' as notaries Oscar , Grammy or " - he said, complained that there was no prior discussion or approach by the organizers.

The names of Oldham and Brian Epstein will join KISS , Nirvana, Hall & Oates and Linda Ronstadt , who will be recognized at the 2014 ceremony on Thursday, April 10 in New York.

Oldham is not the only honoree who decides not to attend the ceremony . In 1997 , Neil Young was not the Sex Pistols either, and last year , Axl Rose , leader of Guns n ' Roses, although it did not appear they did their former teammate band headed by Slash. This year , Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, KISS founding members , attended but refused to play live because his current bandmates not be honored with them.
