Bernard Fowler , "La otra voz de los Stones" (entrevista)

Vinculado a la banda desde hace 27 años, el músico ofrecerá un homenaje a los Rolling Stonesen sus 50 años ,  hoy en Niceto, con músicos locales. Charly García sería de la partida.

Declarado visitante ilustre por la legislatura porteña el año pasado, Bernard Fowler también debería portar un carnet de vistante frecuente a nuestra ciudad, donde esta noche homenajeará a los Rolling Stones -con quienes lleva 27 años en la ruta-, con un recital de canciones de la banda.

“Nunca hice algo así, y no creo que lo vuelva a hacer. No me gusta hacer sólo canciones de los Rolling Stones; tengo las mías, que me encanta cantar. Pero son sus 50 años, y la popularidad del grupo es tan grande aquí, que ambas cosas merecen ser honradas”, dice Fowler, en un corte en medio del ensayo, en una sala de Villa Ortuzar.

Hace cuatro años, decías que todo el tiempo esperabas ‘el’ llamado de Keith. ¿Cómo recibiste la noticia de que volvían a tocar?

Tanto yo, como creo que todos los músicos extra banda, nos sentimos realmente felices. No nos vemos mucho, y siempre es lindo volver al seno familiar. Porque así es. Son casi 30 años. Vimos crecer a sus hijos, que cuando comenzamos eran bebés o ni siquiera habían nacido.

¿No te sentís un miembro más del grupo?

Me siento muy cerca de ellos, pero no me engaño. Trabajo hace mucho con los Rolling Stones, pero no soy uno de ellos. En las fotos, siempre son cuatro.

¿Cómo los viste, musicalmente? De mi parte, creo que suenan mejor que en sus últimas dos giras.

Me pone feliz escuchar eso. Porque cuando alguien me pregunta, tengo que decir con honestidad que jamás los escuché mejor que ahora. Mick es el mejor frontman de toda la historia del rock and roll. No hay otro mejor.

¿Cambió la forma de trabajar?

No. Pero tengo que decir que Mick y Keith se llevan mucho mejor que en otros tiempos. Ya no se ven las fricciones de antes; no se pelean. Eso crea un clima mejor, también en el intercambio con el resto del grupo y con nosotros. Se respetan mucho, y es lindo verlos juntos. Individualmente, los cuatro son grandes personas; juntos, son grandiosos.

¿Antes peleaban mucho?

Todo el tiempo. Igual, ¿cómo podés vivir con alguien 50 años sin pelearte? Pero son grandes profesionales, y lo suficientemente sabios como para saber que se necesitan. Muchas bandas deberían aprender de los Stones.

¿Sentís que lo disfrutan y que conectan sobre el escenario como en otras épocas?

Creo que tanto ellos como nosotros lo disfrutamos aún más que antes. Sobre todo, porque esta vez estamos menos focalizados en el show y más concentrados en la música y en las canciones, que es por lo que viene la gente.

¿Cómo fue el debut stone en el Festival de Glastonbury?

Increíble. Antes, cuando me preguntaban por el mejor show en el que había cantado, me resultaba difícil elegir uno. Ahora puedo decir que Glastonbury y Hyde Park fueron los mejores. La energía de ellos cuatro -y la nuestra- era tremenda. Cuando, en el Hyde Park, Keith tocó la primera nota, sentí el poder de la banda. Se me puso la piel de gallina. La miré a Lisa y le dije: ‘Mierda, esto es tremendo’. Y ella me miró y respondió: ‘Papi regresó a casa’.

¿Vendrán a la Argentina?

Tenés que preguntárselo a ellos. Yo me entero de las cosas cuando ya están en marcha. Por lo pronto. creo que en la primavera comienza la segunda parte del tour.

¿Pensás, como algunos dicen, que es la última gira del grupo?

Están tocando tan bien, que no creo que lo sea. Puede que ellos tengan otra idea, pero no veo por qué deberían parar. Además, si paran, qué van a hacer. ¿Van a ir a pescar? No creo... (Risas)

Four years ago , you said all the time expecting ' the ' call Keith . How did you receive the news of returning to play?

Both myself , as I think all the extra musicians band, we feel really happy. We do not see much , and it's always nice to come back to their families . Because it is. They are almost 30 years . We watched their children grow up , when we started were babies or not even born .

Do not you feel a member of the group?

I feel very close to them , but I am not mistaken . Working long with the Rolling Stones, but I'm not one of them. In the photos, always make four.

How dresses , musically ? For my part , I think they sound better than their last two tours .

It makes me happy to hear that. Because when someone asks me , I have to say honestly never heard them better than now. Mick is the best frontman in the history of rock and roll . No other better.

Did it change the way you work ?

No. But I have to say that Mick and Keith get along much better than at other times. Gone are frictions before, do not fight . That creates a better climate , also in the trade with the rest of the group and with us. They respect a lot, and it's nice to see them together . Individually, all four are great people , together, are great .

'Before fought a lot ?

All the time. Like , how you can live with someone 50 years without fritters ? But they are great professionals , and wise enough to know that they are needed. Many bands should learn from the Stones.

Do you feel that you enjoy and connecting on stage as in the past ?

I think that they and we enjoyed it even more than before. Especially because this time we are less focused on the show and more focused on the music and the songs, which is why people come from.

How was the debut stone at the Glastonbury Festival ?

Unbelievable. Before , when I asked for the best show in which he had sung , it was hard to choose one. Now I can say that Glastonbury and Hyde Park were the best . The energy of these four - and ours - was tremendous. When , in Hyde Park, Keith played the first note, I felt the power of the band. It gave me goosebumps . I looked at Lisa and said, ' Shit, this is awful ' . And she looked at me and said, ' Daddy come home ' .

Will you come to Argentina?

You have to ask them. I whole things when they are underway. For now . I think spring begins the second part of the tour .

Do you think , as some say, that is the last tour ?

They're playing so well, I do not think it is. They may have another idea , but I do not see why they should stop. Also, if you stop, what to do . Are you going to go fishing ? I do not think ... (Laughs )
