On January 2, the Stones were to "Regent SoundStudios in Denmark Street" to start working onfirst album. They recorded "Carol", "Route 66" and "Mona" by Bob Didley.
The throbbing twin guitar attack of "Mona" was an arrangement of Brian, a demonstration ofwhat Bill called "the supremacy and Brianinstinctive musicality."
Keith recalled that "Diddley himself" had saidthat Brian was the only one who had managed to uncover the secret of the music of Bo Diddley.
Regent Sound was a one room studio to recorddemos with a Revox two-track tape recorder, aspeaker hanging on a nail as a monitor and egg cartons to the walls as soundproofing. It was as primitive as any study of any industrialized country, but in following the Rolling Stones would record one of his first there best songs.
