Cuando los Rolling Stones toquen en el Ricoh Arena este sábado, será la primera vez que la banda toca en Coventry en 47 años.
Los Stones llegaron a la ciudad por última vez el 6 de marzo de 1971 para tocar en el Teatro Coventry.
El concierto de ventas agotadas fue una gran noticia en ese momento y el ex periodista Steve Chilton, que estaba allí, lo recuerda bien.
"Eran como las figuras del planeta Zog que aterrizaron en Coventry ese día; estaban en su absoluta gloria", dijo Steve, un entusiasta fanático de los Stones.
"Ese día el teatro estaba en alza, siendo los Stones, y por la forma en que se mueve Jagger, todo el teatro se movió con él. No hubo que sentarse y aplaudir cortésmente ".
El Teatro Coventry ya no existe y estaba ubicado en la calle Hales, más o menos donde se encuentra el Museo del Transporte de Coventry.
El lugar con capacidad para 2,000 espectadores , que originalmente se llamaba el Nuevo Hipódromo cuando se inauguró en 1937, más tarde se convirtió en el Coventry Apollo.
Dejó de funcionar como teatro en 1985, cuando se convirtió en sala de bingo, y finalmente fue demolida en 2002.

"The Last Time" : It's 47 years since the Rolling Stones last played Coventry . The Rolling Stones today at Ricoh Arena 🇬🇧🎸🎤 The Rolling Stones No Filter 2018 Tour.
When the Rolling Stones rock the Ricoh Arena this Saturday it will be the first time the band has played Coventry in 47 years.
The Stones last came to the city on March 6 1971 to play the Coventry Theatre.
The sell-out concert was big news at the time and former Coventry Telegraph journalist Steve Chilton, who was there, remembers it well.
“They were like figures from the Planet Zog who had landed in Coventry that day - they were in their absolute pomp,” said Steve, an avid Stones fan.
“That theatre was just heaving on that day, being the Stones, and the way Jagger moves, the whole theatre moved with him. There was no sitting down and polite clapping.”
The Coventry Theatre is now long gone and was located on Hales Street, roughly where the Coventry Transport Museum is now.
The 2,000-capacity venue, which was originally called the New Hippodrome when it opened in 1937, later became the Coventry Apollo.
It ceased operating as a theatre in 1985, when it became a bingo hall, and was eventually demolished in 2002.
