Chuck Leavell, Nuevo Libro: "Crecimiento de una América mejor: inteligente, fuerte y sostenible"

Chuck Leavell ha tocado el piano y el teclado durante más de tres décadas con la talla de The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton y George Harrison.

Él es también un renombrado conservacionista forestal y apasionado  ambientalista.

El tema de la charla reciente Leavell en la Universidad Estatal de Michigan era la mayordomía y la asociación.

"Es importante que todos seamos buenos administradores de nuestras tierras y recursos naturales", dijo Leavell. "Y las alianzas son importantes para hacer esta gestión tan bien como se pueda.

"Somos más fuertes si trabajamos juntos, podemos lograr objetivos comunes al trabajar juntos. Pero si estamos en desacuerdo y apuntando los dedos  cuando las cosas son difíciles y no enfrentamos los desafíos juntos, no vamos a llegar a ninguna parte."

Leavell comenzó una historia de amor con los bosques y la conservación cuando su esposa heredó 1.000 acres de tierra de su abuela en 1981. Él es optimista acerca de Estados Unidos y de cómo estamos cuidando nuestra preciosa tierra.

"Estados Unidos está haciendo un gran trabajo en la gestión de los bosques", dice Leavell. "Hubo un momento en que no logramos nuestros recursos, así y se tenía una especie de tumba y ejecutabamos la operación, pero hemos aprendido mucho desde esa época y ahora tienen casi tanto o tal vez un poco más de tierra forestal en el país que lo que teniamos hace 100 años.

En el cultivo de una mejor América Leavell va más allá de la conservación de bosques y mira a muchas dimensiones de la sostenibilidad.

"Estamos experimentando un crecimiento fenomenal en los Estados Unidos, pero a medida que avanzamos el crecimiento va a ser rápido, desenfrenado y temerario o puede ser inteligente, fuerte y sostenible?"

Chuck Leavell has played piano and keyboard for over three decades with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and George Harrison. 

He's also a renowned and passionate forest conservationist and environmentalist.

Leavell co-founded the Mother Nature Network and his new book is "Growing a Better America: Smart, Strong, and Sustainable."

The subject of Leavell's recent talk at Michigan State University was stewardship and partnership.

"It's important that we all be good stewards of our lands and natural resources," says Leavell.  "And partnerships are important to make this stewardship go as well as it can.

"We're stronger if we work together, and we can achieve common goals by working together.  But if we're at odds and pointing fingers when things are difficult and not meeting challenges together, we won't get anywhere."

Leavell began a love affair with forests and conservation when his wife inherited 1,000 acres of land from her grandmother in 1981.  He's optimistic about America and how we are stewarding our precious land.

"America is doing a tremendous job in forest management," Leavell says.  "There was a time when we didn't manage our resources as well and had kind of a slash and run operation, but we've learned a lot since that era and now have almost as much or maybe a little more forest land in the country than we did 100 years ago.

In Growing a Better America Leavell goes well beyond forest conservation and looks at many dimensions of sustainability.

"We're experiencing phenomenal growth in America, but as we go forward is that growth going to be rapid, rampant, and reckless or can it be smart, strong, and sustainable?"
