Un ex agente de policía fue condenado hoy a diez meses de cárcel por haber vendido información sobre detalles de gente famosa al tabloide "The Sun" en 2009, según falló hoy un juez británico.
Alan Tierney, ex policía del cuerpo de Surrey, admitió en una audiencia celebrada a principios de mes ante el tribunal penal de Old Bailey, su culpabilidad en dos cargos.
Tierney estaba acusado de haber vendido al citado rotativo, propiedad del magnate Rupert Murdoch, detalles acerca de Sue Terry y Sue Poole, la madre y la suegra del ex capitán de la selección de fútbol inglesa, John Terry, jugador del Chelsea, detenidas bajo la sospecha de haber robado en un supermercado del condado de Surrey.
El ex policía también aportó información a cambio de dinero al mismo tabloide sobre el arresto del guitarrista Ronnie Wood, de 65 años, sospechoso de haber agredido a su ex amante rusa, Ekaterina Ivanova.
Al dictar su fallo, el juez Adrian Fulford se refirió hoy a los delitos cometidos por Tierney como "una manera de actuar vergonzosa para un policía".
El arresto de Tierney se practicó durante la denominada Operación Elveden sobre sobornos a autoridades pagados por periodistas a cambio de información.
Se trata del segundo policía procesado dentro de esta operación, que se desarrolla de manera paralela a otra conocida como Weeting, sobre los pinchazos telefónicos realizados por reporteros para lograr noticias.
Durante el proceso judicial, el equipo legal del ex agente alegó en su defensa que la salud mental de Tierney se ha visto alterada desde su detención y que incluso "ha tratado de suicidarse".
Los abogados de la defensa del ex policía también indicaron que su cliente "ha perdido a su mujer, su familia y su reputación".

Alan Tierney, former cop's body Surrey, admitted at a hearing earlier this month at the Old Bailey criminal court, guilty on two counts.
Tierney was accused of having sold the said newspaper, owned by Rupert Murdoch, details about Sue Terry and Sue Poole, the mother and the mother of former captain of the English football, John Terry, Chelsea player arrested on suspected of stealing from a supermarket in the county of Surrey.
Former police also provided information in exchange for money at the same tabloid on the arrest of guitarist Ronnie Wood, 65, suspected of assaulting his former lover Russian Ekaterina Ivanova.
In issuing his ruling, Judge Adrian Fulford today referred to crimes committed by Tierney as "a shameful way for a police action."
Tierney's arrest was practiced during Operation Elveden called on authorities paid bribes to journalists in exchange for information.
This is the second police processed within this operation, which is developed in parallel to another known as Weeting, on wiretaps made by reporters to get news.
During the trial, the legal team of former agent claimed in his defense that Tierney's mental health has been altered since his arrest and even "tried to commit suicide."
Lawyers for the defense of former police also indicated that his client "has lost his wife, his family and his reputation."
