Keith Richards "Básicamente, no estamos listos"

Para mediados de este año tenían reservada al menos una fecha en un estadio de Londres, donde tenían planeadio celebrar su medio siglo con la música. Sin embargo, los Rolling Stones debieron suspender todo posible festejo masivo y en vivo para otra ocasión, quizá el año que viene. O quizá nunca.

"Básicamente, no estamos listos", afirmó Keith Richards a la edición estadounidense de la revista Rolling Stone, aunque sus palabras incluyeron apenas una parte de la verdad, ya que el motivo principal para la no-celebración de los 50 años del grupo es su salud.

El entorno de la banda drock más longeva de la historia teme que la salud del mítico guitarrista no esté preparada para soportar los vaivenes de una gira mundial, o tan siquiera el nivel de exigencia con el que un grupo como los Stones tiene que lidiar cada vez que se presenta en vivo, ya que siempre se trata de conciertos extensos y que incluyen no menos de una decena de fechas programadas, aquí, allá y en todas partes.

Según el reporte del periodista norteamericano Patrick Doyle, "el desempeño de Richards empeoró luego de sufrir una lesión en la cabeza durante unas vacaciones en Fiji en abril de 2006", cuando se golpeó tras trepar a un cocotero en la playa.

"Tenés enfrente a un Keith Richards muy oxidado", le comentó el icónico violero a un periodista poco después, cuando ya había quedado atrás le filmación del documental de Martin Scorsese Shine a Light en el que, incluso, pueden oirse varios "pifies" de Keith con su guitarra.

"No quieren viajar y les preocupa la salud de Keith", afirmó hace pocas semanas un miembro de la industria de la música sobre el parate que los septuagenarios Stones.

Sin embargo, y más allá de los incesantes rumores de fin del sueño rocker, la banda está cotejando ofertas para la todavía no anunciada pero planeada gira 2013, en la que sí se celebrarían las bodas de oro. Entre las posibilidades se encuentra una tanda de diez fechas en el Madison Square Garden de New York y otras diez en el O2 Arena de Londres.

Mientras tanto, el propio Richards, cada día más diplomático y más experto en declaraciones mediáticas (aunque no tanto como Jagger), salió a aclarar que los 50 años recién se cumplirían el año próximo, ya que, dijo: "Los Stones siempre dijmos que los 50 años se cuentan a partir del `63, porque Charlie (Watts) no entró en la banda hasta enero. Para nosotros, 2012 es el aniversario de la concepción de la banda, pero el de su nacimiento sería el año que viene".
