La actriz y cantante Marianne Faithfull lo tuvo todo demasiado joven: un salto a la fama precoz, un vertiginoso romance con Mick Jagger, drogas de todos los tipos y colores, y toda una vida por delante para ser más que la chica del Swinging London.


Quien hubiera dicho que la bella Marianne Faithfull llegaría a los 65 años. Pero la verdadera coronación llegaría a los 16 años cuando la descubre Andrew Loog Oldham, el manager de los Rolling Stones y comenzó una carrera de cantante folk que rápidamente pasa al pop con giras por Gran Bretaña en compañía de Roy Orbison, Chad & Jeremy o los Hollies. 
Si bien su belleza no pasó desapercibida para muchos terminó con Mick Jagger por quien rompió su matrimonio con el artista plástico y galerista John Dunbar. En Faithfull, la autobiografía que escribió en 1994 cuenta que “La gente tenía un tremendo interés en creer que mi vida con Mick era un largo idilio de amor y felicidad. Parecía terriblemente importante para ellos que fuera así. ‘Prometía’, pero sólo en el sentido que la prensa sensacionalista le da a ese término. Durante décadas los escándalos y desastres privados opacaron su trabajo, pero lo cierto es que mientras se llevaba puesto el mundo, sólo en los ´60 sacó nada menos que cinco álbumes y actuó en Las tres hermanas de Anton Chéjov, la célebre puesta del Hamlet de Tony Richardson y en diversos papeles cinematográficos como el de Made in U.S.A. de Jean-Luc Godard o con Orson Welles y Alain Delon. Pero Marianne siempre se levanta y luego de un álbum de folk llamado Dreaming my dreams volvió al ruedo con la edición de Broken English cuyo tema homónimo estaba dedicado a Ulrike Meinhoff, una militante alemana de la ultra izquierda, que se había suicidado en la cárcel un año antes. En relación a sus continuos problemas declaró que a pesar de su belleza angelical “nunca fui una mujer pura.
