Previously unseen photographs of The Rolling Stones come to light

Were taken by Jim Marshall during his tour of 1972

Based on the serious expression he had Mick Jagger and staring at Keith Richards, it was clear that the pressure was great.
It was the summer of 1972 and The Rolling Stones were at their U.S. tour to promote his acclaimed album Exile on Main Street. But when they were on stage playing and having fun with their fans, were working hard at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood, to remix some songs.

They were hard times full of parties and recording sessions, and only one person was there to capture all intimately, the famed music photographer Jim Marshall, who was covering the tour for Life magazine.

Now, heritage Marshall is releasing never before seen photos of the band through the book, The Rolling Stones 1972 (The Rolling Stones in 1972, Chronicle Books), which goes on sale Aug. 15.

There will be a presentation at Steven Kasher Gallery in New York which will be July 5 to September 8, plus a display at the EMP museum in Seattle, which opens July 14.

Some of these shots are shown exclusively through the CNN Blog Photos. This presentation could not have been presented at a better time, as the Rolling Stones recently announced the conclusion that frame its 50th anniversary this year.

Amelia Davis, a photographer who worked as an assistant to Marshall, is the sole owner of the photographs Jim Marshall, because Marshall died in 2010.
Working with Marshall and help you archive your work allowed Davis to know many of her stories and delve into his memory. Davis told CNN that what was unique shots of Marshall is that he always demanded full access to the rock stars.

"He really was wherever they were the stars, either in the truck transporting them during the tour or off stage," said Davis. "He always had his camera on hand, and people kind of ignored her. The camera was an extension of it. He had the ability to act like a fly on the wall. "

Marshall's ability to blend in order not to interrupt the dynamics of the band also allowed him to experience life on tour with the Rolling Stones, Davis said.

"It really set a precedent for the tours of rock stars," he said. "They had their own plane, many drugs and too much alcohol available. It was just something crazy, many things happening. "
Davis said that Marshall's strong personality, his intense passion for music and his drive to achieve the best shots while keeping the camaraderie they did interact with musicians such as Richards.
"He was their friend," he said. "Celebrating with them. Had his confidence. As Keith said in the preface of the book, in the tour he was another member of The Rolling Stones ".

But what Marshall was photographed enjoying the quiet moments when the musicians took off his mask and artists were just themselves, he said. The only thing you have to do is see pictures of Jagger on stage and off it to see that it is different people.

"Mick was very focused on the business," said Davis. "Mick was much more serious than Keith. That is what many people do not see: he is the employer of the band. "
Davis said that while Marshall was not long following the Stones, was more than enough time to enter into friendship with some members, especially Richards.

But the most important task that Marshall made during his career, either during the last Beatles concert in 1966, or presentation of Jimi Hendrix for the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, was to capture the music as a feeling, a task might seem impossible.
"Jim always tried to show the true face of what was to photograph," said Davis. "The breaking down stereotypes of how they should be rock stars. He said: 'I was a historian with a camera and I was not aware of that.' The photographed pieces of history. "

Mick Taylor was stunned after reading Keith Richards' autobiography as he had no idea his former Rolling Stones bandmate desperately wanted him to stay in the group.

Taylor joined the rockers to replace Brian Jones in the line-up, but he walked away five years later in 1974 amid reports of a dispute with frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist Richards over songwriting credits.

However, Richards went on to heap praise on Taylor in his 2010 memoir Life, writing, "We did the most brilliant stuff together, some of the most brilliant stuff the Stones ever did. Everything was there in his playing - the melodic touch, a beautiful sustain and a way of reading a song...

"He knew how I felt. I always want to keep a band together. You can leave in a coffin or with dispensations for long service, but otherwise you can't."

The guitarist insists he was unaware Richards was upset about his departure, telling The Times newspaper, "He sent me a message saying, 'Dear Mick, thanks for all the turn-ons. It was great playing with you.' And that was that. Possibly because I had my own problems, I didn't realise how he was affected."

Taylor also counters Richards' claims he was the band's "morose" member, insisting, "I don't think I was morose. He said I was fighting demons but so was he. I wasn't shy, it was just that everyone wanted to talk to Mick and Keith, not me or Bill (Wyman) or Charlie (Watts).
